I am Ulaş Yeşilyurt. My work is fed by a place whose roots reach far back: nature, people, and the traces that have come down to us from thousands of years ago. I found my own essence there too, in the past and in what it has left me. That is why my lines do not follow a ruler; they move the way a root finds the soil: curving, branching, following the movement of the body.

I was born in İzmir. I began tattooing at seventeen, while a student at a fine arts high school. At university I studied design, and there, beside a teacher I value deeply, I learned to think like a designer. I have taken part in exhibitions and won awards in art, tattooing and design.

Designing and making art are separate things. For me, tattooing is where the two meet.

Making a work that someone will carry for the rest of their life is a feeling I cannot put into words. Touching people’s lives through art builds a bond between us unlike any other. This is what feeds me most, and it leaves its trace in everything I make.
